The original Carrera Skipper model was first introduced in 1968. It was designed specifically for professional and amateur sailors. It featured a number of features that made it ideal for use in regattas and featured a distinctive blue dial with contrasting sub-dials, which are a nod to the yacht Intrepid that won the America’s Cup in 1967. Derived from the recently-launched ‘glassbox’ Carrera, this new generation Skipper is set to make waves in the yachting world. Serving as the flagship for a series of maritime-inspired models, the Carrera Skipper marks TAG Heuer’s triumphant return to this prestigious realm.
The Carrera Skipper dial features a captivating multi-colored chronograph sub-dial at 3 o’clock, set against a striking blue backdrop. Reminiscent of the original model, the 30-minute sub-dial has been ingeniously modified to count down the 15-minute regatta pre-start in three five-minute segments.
Lagoon Green represents the boat’s rigging, Intrepid Teal mimics the yacht’s deck color, and the orange hand on the chronograph seconds sub-dial signals the final five minutes before the start. This regatta-specific feature ensures precise countdown tracking, allowing sailors to monitor their progress and ensure timely starts. The ‘Skipper’ name at the base of the 12-hour counter adds an authentic touch, complementing Intrepid’s teal color.
The 39 mm stainless steel case of the Carrera Skipper radiates charm and sophistication with its alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces. The sapphire crystal gracefully extends from the dial edge to the case, enhancing the watch’s overall aesthetic. With a thickness of 13.9 mm, this timepiece commands attention. Despite the absence of a screwed-down crown, it boasts a water resistance of up to 10 bar (100 meters / 330 feet), ensuring its durability in maritime environments.
Beneath the sapphire crystal case back lies TAG Heuer’s in-house automatic chronograph caliber, the Heuer 02. This evolved version of the movement features a bi-directional winding oscillating weight, with a power reserve of 80 hours.
Completing the ensemble is a blue fabric strap secured by a stainless steel folding clasp with double safety push buttons. The Carrera Skipper ref. CBS2213.FN6002 is priced at CHF 6,600.
