Baselworld 2018 celebrates all things watches and all but for Urban Jürgensen, a company founded in Copenaghen in 1773 and is now based in Bienne/Biel, it is also a celebration for the brand’s 245th anniversary. For this reason, it created a model suitable for the occasion and also adds to the beautiful pieces in the Jules Collection. So without further ado, here is the new Reference 2140 in white gold and black dial.
The new watch is stunning, clearly stunning to say the least. It features the same contemporary tapered lugs designating the beautiful Jules collection. The curves are amazing and creates a nice frame for the elegant case design. The monochrome look also adds mystery to a rather elegant timepiece thereby creating a fascinating world of contrasts. I like the design to be honest. It is also very nice to look at the 40 mm white gold round case where the convex and concave surfaces somewhat get interspersed. The crown is less boring thanks to the tapered lugs that somewhat create a perfect symmetry.
The new watch also features a domed sapphire crystal, toughened for quality and underneath it is a hand finished guilloché dial. This is the lovely part and the tone is simply visible or poignant. Moreover, this artisan dial showcases alternating Grains d’Orges and Guilloché Damier patterns which are manually selected and scaled for perfection. Let this sink, each of the dial is crafted from solid silver and takes a couple of days to complete on a guilloché lathe. It is not only painstaking but the requirements for the dial is said to be very high standard as seen on the final product.
Inside the amazing case of the new Reference 2140 is an in-house hand-wound Urban Jürgensen P4 Lever Escapement movement beating at 3 Hz or 21,600 vph. This powerhouse features two barrels that is capable of achieving a whopping 72 hours of power reserve. The transparent caseback showcases this beautiful movement which of course is finished to Urban Jürgensen’s high standards.
Finally, the new watch wears on a semi-matt black alligator leather strap secured by a personalized white gold C-buckle. It looks classic yet modern and perfectly complements the style of the watch.
