Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation in Europe, Watches & Wonders Geneva has once again become an online event. The organisers behind the show, which used to be known as ‘SIHH’, announced that the show would be in 2 halves this year.Â
The first half is the digital forum where some 38 exhibitors will display their new watches online on the new Watches & Wonders website. This will run from the 7th of April to the 13th exclusively for media & retail staff and select VIPs.
The show in Geneva used to be for the Richemont Group’s brands and a selection of independent maisons. You may remember that last year the organisers of Baselworld, the MCH Group, royally put their foot in it and decided to charge all the exhibitors an enormous amount of money and change the schedule on them for seemingly no reason. Alas, Baselworld is no more, now having the name HOURUNIVERSE, and all the big-name brands that once so vehemently held up the show have left. Their destination? Geneva. Initially, they were going to make their own show but ended up partnering with the SIHH team and forming the new Watches and Wonders Geneva show.
The second half is an invite-only showing in the West Bund Art Centre in Shanghai a few days after the digital showcase, where 15 brands will present their new models in person. I can only hope that they have some extreme social distancing measures in place.
These are the 15 brands exhibiting in Shanghai:
- A. Lange & Söhne
- Baume & Mercier
- Cartier
- Chopard
- IWC Schaffhausen
- Jaeger-LeCoultre
- Montblanc
- Panerai
- Piaget
