Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing Wes Knight – Founder of a new Australian watch brand named ERROYL that was crowd funded on Kickstarter some months ago to get started.

With a group of friends from Canberra, Australia he brought dress watches from his home country to the attention of the world. James Barling (photographer and video man), Brad Wilton (co-creator) and Michael Phanprachit (graphic designer) are part of the team behind Erroyl watches. They have sold about 130 watches with the help of this crowdfunding campaign which gave them the opportunity to raise around $41,000 out of an original target of $15,000. We can easily see that Erroyl watches have a classic and elegant style – they come in white, rose gold and black with simple brown and black leather straps. At the heart of each watch you’ll find the hand-winding automatic movement Miyota Cal. 9015 which is really effective.

The sleek design of the timepiece is also pushed in the details of the dial which is decorated with fine texture guilloché of concentric circles that gives a really nice effect depending on the light.

At 3, 6, 9 and 12 O’clock we can see the polished stainless steel Roman numerals that are applied, accompanied by small baton style indexes. The proportions of the piece are great. Add to this very refined dial, the dauphine hands that are well designed. The date window at 3 O’clock and the logo at 12 O’clock help to create a well-balanced and harmonious composition.

This watch is the perfect demonstration of what a “timeless dress watch” should be. It measures 40mm diameter with a height of 10mm, which allows you to have a very comfortable piece to wear. The caseback of the watch reveals, through the sapphire crystal, the movement Miyota 9015. This first Heritage collection comes with a plain rotor but I’m sure that the future releases will have the rotor decorated with the Erroyl logo.

The watch comes with a alligator strap that bears a pin buckle engraved with the name of ERROYL. It’s really interesting to find a brand that decided to create refined, elegant and timeless automatic watches at an affordable price of $300.

Finally we can see the attention to the details thanks to their extensive packaging. A dark grey box with the logo of the brand that contains another luxurious black leather box, which bears also the logo and that contains the watch. It’s just impressive for a small brand and that’s a real joy to open one box after the other to finally find the watch. Even some big brands have bad packaging, so that’s a good point for Erroyl Watches.

  • A very detailed interview. I am a very proud owner of an Erroyl watch. We had also done an interview with Wes in the beginning of 2015. Pleasure to have him featured on our site. Honestly, I like this interview better than the one on my site.
