Grand Seiko, a watchmaker renowned for its inspired designs and precision engineering, has recently released its latest creation, the ‘Yuki Gesho SBGJ271 Hi-Beat GMT watch. This timepiece embodies the rich tradition of Grand Seiko, which draws its inspiration from the breathtaking beauty of nature in Japan. From the intricate movements to the visually stunning dial, this watch showcases the watchmakers’ appreciation for their surroundings and their attention to detail.

The dial of the ‘Yuki Gesho’ SBGJ271 Hi-Beat GMT is a testament to the watchmakers’ artistry. The term “Yukigesho” is a poetic expression used to describe the dusting of snow, and this watch captures this look with its silvery-white tone and complex pattern. The intricate wood grain texture and vertical lines of the pattern give the impression of wood worked by a craftsman, contrasting with the natural style of previous Grand Seiko watches. The facetted hour markers, hands, and indexes polished to a sharp edge make the time legible even in low light. The GMT hand, finished in black, is paired with an easy-to-read 24-hour ring for quick timekeeping in a second-time zone. A date window is found at 3 o’clock with the background matching the dial color.

The ‘Yuki Gesho’ SBGJ271 Hi-Beat GMT watch features a stainless steel case measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 14.1mm in thickness. It is finished with Grand Seiko’s signature Zaratsu polishing, creating a smooth and mirror-like finish. It is water-resistant to 3 bar (30m) with a screw-down crown. The sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner side makes it easy to read the time even in bright light.

The watch is powered by Grand Seiko’s 9S86 movement, a 5Hz Hi-Beat automatic GMT movement with an accuracy of -3/+5 seconds per day, 36,000 beats per hour, 55 hours of power reserve, and the signature Hi-Beat smooth seconds hand.

The ‘Yuki Gesho’ SBGJ271 Hi-Beat GMT is part of the permanent collection and comes paired with a 3-link brushed and polished stainless steel bracelet with a triple-fold clasp and push-button release. This striking model is priced at $7,200 and is available starting in March through authorized Grand Seiko retailers.
