Hamilton Khaki Murph Watch From “Interstellar”

BY DHANANJAY PATHAK

The world of watches and movies has always had a close-knit association. From the Seiko H558 quartz dive watch that was worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Predator to the Seamaster 300m quartz professional worn by Pierce Brosnan in the 1995 bond hit Goldeneye, films, and movie stars have been behind the success story of many watches. So, in case you are a movie buff and a watch nerd at the same time, you might be familiar with Hamilton’s latest film inspired release. The new Hamilton Khaki Field Murph is the production variant of the watch which was worn by one of the lead characters of the 2014 release, Interstellar.

Being a part of the Khaki line up this new watch is a field watch at heart and has been created with a high focus on legibility. The dial is black in color with a matt finish to it and features bold printed Arabic numerals for the hours. On the outer periphery is a minute track which is a combination of hash markings and numerals at 5-minute intervals. The beautiful cathedral handset is nicely proportioned and along with hour markings have been covered with beige colored luminous material to give the watch a vintage vibe and to aid low light visibility. The slender stick style seconds hand is quite simple to look at but hides an interesting detail in relation to the movie that inspired this watch. It has the word ‘Eureka’ printed in Morse code, which is not easily visible to the naked eye but can definitely be seen under a loupe.

The case is made out of stainless and is modernly sized with a diameter of 42mm. It bears a brushed finish for the most part with a nicely polished bezel on the top which securely holds the sapphire crystal in place. The case is also water resistant to 100 meters. The movement powering the Khaki Murph is Hamilton’s H10 caliber which is basically a modified version of the famous ETA2824. It beats at a low frequency of 21600 bph and offers an amazing power reserve of around 80 hours.

The Hamilton Khaki Murph is another great new release from Hamilton and is a suitable contender for a great everyday watch. The watch comes attached to a black leather strap with white contrast stitching and the first 2555 pieces would come packaged inside a tesseract inspired box. The retail price on the watch is CHF 945.
