Introducing The Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar Forest Green Watch

BY DHANANJAY PATHAK

While the last week or so has been all about novelties from Watches and Wonder 2020, there has been some horological action taking place outside of the mega digital event as well. So, here we are today to give our audience a quick look at the new PanoMaticLunar green, the latest offering from our friends over at Glashütte Original.

Glashütte Original is a brand well-known for producing some good-looking elegant timepieces and the PanoMaticLunar is one of them. The emerald dial on this reference is inspired by the coniferous forests surrounding the brand’s manufactory. While the deep rich shade of green is a unique color choice, the artisans at Glashütte Original have given the dial a nice gradient effect to make it look more visually engaging. Beginning with a light shade of green and culminating into an almost greenish-black hue the dial exhibits an entire gamut of green. Colorway aside, the rest of the dial remains quite familiar. It still features an asymmetrical layout with timekeeping on the left and the Moonphase display along with a big date on the right. All the text has been presented in white offering a great contrast against the green background, and the moon and stars have been rendered in silver.

Driving the watch is Glashütte Original’s in-house caliber 90-2. This is an automatic movement that operates at a frequency of 4Hz and offers an autonomy of around 42 hours when fully wound. The movement features the brands’ signature duplex swan-neck fine adjustment and has been beautifully decorated using Glashütte stripes, blued screws, hand beveling on the bridges to name a few. It can be viewed through the sapphire exhibition case back.

The case has been constructed from stainless steel and is well proportioned. It has a diameter of 40mm with a thickness of around 12.7mm. Finishing as expected from a brand like Glashütte Original looks top-notch with a nice mix of brushed and polished surfaces, and water resistance is limited to just 50 meters.

The new Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar green would be available to purchase beginning June 2020 and would retail for EUR 9,500 on a brown leather strap and EUR 10,900 on a stainless-steel bracelet.
