Seiko Presage Cocktail Time ‘Fuyugeshiki’ Limited Edition Watches

BY JOVAN KRSTEVSKI

Seiko‘s popular “Cocktail Time” collection receives a new limited edition, the Presage and it comes in three versions. The main highlight of the Seiko Presage “Fuyugeshiki” Cocktail Time is the dial featuring a snow-like texture. This might also be the first time in the Cocktail Time collection to include an exclusive women’s watch.

The dial design is called Fuyugeshiki or when loosely translated is a snowscape but literally, it means “winter scenery.” This is also the name of the original cocktail found at the Tokyo bar where Seiko partnered with for the current Cocktail Time watches. It is also worth noting that the watch is practically named after a drink. Pretty much, we can easily see the influence of the popular Grand Seiko “Snowflake” to other models too and the Seiko Presage SJE073 clearly shows this inspiration.

The new Seiko Presage “Fuyugeshiki” Cocktail Time watches three versions are: two small sized for men and a smaller version for the ladies. The men’s models take the previous style of the Cocktail Time SSA and SRPC watches. A simple three-hand time is seen on the SRPC with central seconds and a date window at 3 o’clock. The SSA model indicates the date via a subdial at 6 o’clock with a power reserve indicator between 12 and 4 o’clock indicated by a central hand on the dial. At 40.5 mm wide and 47.5mm lug to lug, these watches are small by my standards which s perfect for a dressy watch however the SSA or the one with the power indicator is slightly thicker at 14.4mm compared to SRPC97J1’s 11.8mm. The cases are also made of steel with 50m water resistance.

Powering the three-hand SRPC97J1 is the 4R35 automatic movement and the 4R57 is includes a power reserve indicator and they both crank up 41 hours of power reserve fully wound. It’s a modern movement operating at 3Hz offering hand-winding and hacking, and with accuracy of +45 to –35 seconds per day. Being Seiko, I know the brand is sometimes underestimating its precision claims. We can also see the movement through the exhibition caseback particularly the gold-colored rotor.

Moving on to the women’s Seiko Presage “Fuyugeshiki” Cocktail Time SRP843J1, the same 4R35 is powering it. It measures 33.8mm wide, 40.4mm lug to lug, and 11.3mm thick so it is definitely small. It also has a date window at 3 o’clock replacing the index on its place, a common Seiko design. All versions feature a raised “box-shaped” hardlex crystal with full steel bracelets.

The Seiko Presage “Fuyugeshiki” Cocktail Time watches are limited to 7,000 pieces each for the men’s models and 5,000 pieces for the women’s model. What I like here is the textured dial with excellent legibility. The artisty touch is playful but when it comes down to functionality, it is a guaranteed Seiko delivery. The design is neat and while the men’s versions are a bit small, they do offer comfort and I like the mechanical aspect of the SSA model with its obvious power reserve indicator. Visit Seiko here.
