It seems that in our ever more complicated and hectic lives we often forget about the companies which are responsible for making some fantastically well made and priced products. Although they are great products for sure, the company that makes them may not have such a large marketing budget. Companies such as McDonald’s and KFC instantly recognised because of their iconic logo, the same goes for Rolex, Omega, Breitling and TAG Heuer.
Sinn is one of those companies that’s often overshadowed by these firms and more. Believe it or not companies such as Patek Philippe and Cartier not only make a lot of watches per year, they also have a big marketing presence in the world of watches, it’s easy for a watch newcomer to get attracted to certain brands because of their marketing, which is not available to Sinn. What this doesn’t do is prevent Sinn from making good watches anyway and their new U212 diving watch is no exception.
The Germans are well known for their submarines, it doesn’t take a genius to show just how effective the Nazi U-Boats were at scuttling allied convoys and transport ships in WWII, interestingly the 47mm case on this watch is made of German submarine grade steel. One thing we all have to remember is that Germany is a lot different now even if their watches are just as well made.
The new U212 watch is 14.5mm thick and is water resistant to 1000 meters with a screw down crown and unidirectional rotating bezel made of tegimented steel which is harder and less prone to scratches than normal stainless steel. The watch has been tested and certified for resistance to low pressures, it can also operate in temperatures ranging from -45 degrees centigrade to 80 degrees centigrade. It’s also received a certification for European diving equipment with DNV GL and it has also undergone Sinn’s de-humidifying treatment which will prevent the watch from fogging up inside.
The new German Sinn watch boasts a Swiss made Sellita SW 300-1 automatic movement in it which features a date and hacking seconds with antishock and antimagnetic capabilities. Sellita’s SW movement is in direct competition with the ETA 2892 movement.
You can buy the new Sinn U212 EZM 16 watch fitted with a black silicone strap and your choice of an expandable folding clasp or a butterfly clasp for just $2740, or you could go one step further and get the watch on a steel bracelet with an extending folding clasp for $2840. It’s a truly hardcore watch and it comes right in the extremely large diving watch category with the likes of the Rolex Deepsea and the Omega Seamaster PloProf.
