Introducing The Baume & Mercier Capeland Chronograph 10451 And 10452 Watches

Two new sports chronographs that pack a solid punch.

After releasing some classic and elegant pieces during the Watches and Wonders online event held earlier this year, Baume & Mercier is now back with a couple of new sports watches. The new Capeland watches are handsome looking chronographs that are powered by a Swiss automatic movement and are well priced.

The face of these new Capeland watches is balanced, legible, and refined, traits that don’t generally co-exist on most chronographs. Presented in black with a Matt finish, the dial features a twin-register setup with running seconds at 3 o’clock and a 30-minute chronograph timer at the 9 o’clock position. All hour markers are wedge-shaped edge shaped except for the marker at 12 that is shaped like the brand logo. All markers have been filled with lume to offer enhanced low light visibility and have been rhodium plated to offer a more premium look. Tying all indexes together is a bright orange circular ring that adds a dash of color and sportiness to the watch. A white printed minute track runs on the outer periphery and time can be read easily using the well-proportioned leaf-shaped hands. Interestingly, the hands for the chronograph functions have been presented in orange to avoid any mixup with normal timekeeping. Finally, there is a date window at 6 that keeps the symmetry of the dial intact.

The case on these new watches is made from stainless and have been given a full or partial DLC treatment. It measures 42mm in diameter, which combined with a modest thickness of around 13.2mm should easily cater to a wide variety of wrists. The case is flanked by two pump-style pushers and a nice grippy crown at 3. Water-resistance is limited to 50 meters.

Flipping the watch over reveals the ETA 2894-2 movement that powers these watches. An automatic modular chronograph movement, the ETA 2894-2 comprises 37 jewels and offers an autonomy of around 42 hours when fully wound. The movement has been nicely decorated using perlage, Geneva stripes, and black screws.

The new Baume and Mercier Capeland chronograph watches would come attached to a black calfskin strap with orange edges. Both the full DLC variant (Reference 10452) and the semi DLC variant (Reference 10451) would cost USD 3,550
