Introducing The Hermès Slim d’Hermès Titane Watch

BY DHANANJAY PATHAK

In case you followed our extensive coverage of SIHH 2019, you might have gone through the article wherein we had put together what we thought were the 10 best releases of the event, which included the incredible double moon phase Hermès Arceau L’Heure De La Lune. Well, today we have some more exciting horology related news from the French luxury goods manufacturer as the brand has released another cool new watch, the Slim d’Hermès Titane. Featuring a case made out of titanium this watch presents a slightly sporty take on the classic looking Slim d’Hermès in stainless steel.

Released back in 2015 the Hermès Slim d’Hermès is characterized by its unusual typography and the same has been carried over to the Titane albeit with a slight difference. Rather than having a plainly printed dial the Slim d’Hermès Titane features a sandwich style construction with a layer of lume at the bottom followed by cutout numerals above it. This not only gives an added dimensionality to the dial but would also aid low light visibility. Apart from the uncommon font, what makes this dial special is the array of colors and textures used on it. The sunburst finish on the black outer section, circular graining on the anthracite center, a textured silver sub seconds dial and the bright orange accents combine to make the dial visually interesting. Time can be read easily using the baton style handset which comprises a silver hour/minute hand and a small bright orange subsidiary seconds hand which along with the numeral at 12 and the hash marking at 6 adds a nice splash of color to the dial giving it a touch of casual character. It is also nice to see that Hermes has decided not to add a date complication to this watch keeping the dial clean and symmetrical.

Coming in at 39.5 mm wide and 8.2mm thick the case on the Slim d’Hermès Titane is well proportioned and should sit comfortably on a variety of wrists. It is made out of grade 2 titanium which should make the watch lighter further aiding wrist comfort. It is water resistant to 30 meters and has nice brushed finish throughout the case. There is a sapphire crystal on the top as well as the back. Powering this watch is the brand’s caliber H1950, which is basically a slightly modified Vaucher automatic movement. It features Hermes signature H pattern throughout the brides of the movement, which can be admired through the sapphire crystal exhibition case back. The movement operates at a frequency of 3Hz and offers a power reserve of around 42 hours.

The Hermès Slim d’Hermès Titane is a nice versatile watch which treads the fine line between a sports watch and a dress watch making it a suitable contender for a great everyday watch. The watch would come attached to a black leather strap with contrast grey stitching and painted orange sides to match the orange highlights on the dial. The watch would retail at a price of USD 8,050.
