Earlier this year Parmigiani Fleurier introduced two handsome luxury steel sports watches, the Tonda GT and the Tonda GT chronograph. Recently the brand updated its GT line with the Tonda Steel GT Silver Limited Edition, a watch that sports a silver dial with blue highlights.
Like other members of the Tonda GT family, it is the dial that steals the show here. Presented in a light shade of silver, that looks like a shade of white in the pictures, the dial still features a nice mix of texture and patterns that add make it visually impressive. At the center is a distinctive honey-comb like guilloche pattern that houses the big date complication at 12 and the seconds sub-dial at 6. Moving outwards you get a layer with concentric circles that contains the stunning thermally blued hour markers. Finally, on the outermost periphery is the smooth minute’s chapter ring that sits slightly above the rest of the dial adding a nice sense of depth. The handset comprises skeletonized delta-shaped hour and minute hands and an extra-long second’s hands. And like the markers, the hands have also been heat blued to provide a great contrast to the rest of the dial.
The stainless-steel case on this watch measures 42mm in diameter and has a thickness of just 11.2mm that should make it slide under the cuffs with relative ease. The case seems to be finely finished and exhibits a nice mix of brushed and polished surfaces. One of the eye-catching elements on the case is the fluted bezel on top that gives the watch a premium appeal. The case is water-resistant to a healthy 100 meters.
The beating heart inside the new Tonda Steel GT is the calibre PF044. An automatic movement, the PF044 operates at 4 Hz and can tick for45 hours when fully wound. The movement is well decorated and can be enjoyed through the sapphire case back.
The new Parmigiani Tonda Steel GT Silver Limited Edition can be purchased on either the integrated steel bracelet for CHF 14,500 or on a blue rubber strap for CHF 13,500. Only 250 pieces of the watch would ever be made.
