Around three years back, Swiss watch brand Panerai joined hands with German luxury automotive company Brabus. This collaboration has led to the creation of the intriguing and innovative Panerai Submersible Brabus Black Ops Edition. Inspired by the “Shadow Black Ops” Brabus modified day boats, this new watch pays a tribute to the marine spirit that the two brands share.

Fully dressed in Brabus black with bright red accents, this new Panerai makes a strong visual impact. The dial has almost fully stripped down with only the outer chapter ring left intact that houses the black lume filled applied hour markers.  Visible through the mesh-like structure on the front are the internals of the calibre P4001/s, which happens to be the first-ever skeletonized automatic movement for Panerai.  As far as the layout is concerned, you get a combined AM/PM and running seconds indicator at the 9 o’clock position along with Brabus branding between 7 and 8. At 3 is a patented polarized date display that allows a view of the date without covering the movement mechanics. Mounted centrally are the oversized and highly legible sword-shaped hands along with the arrow-tipped GMT hand, all of which feature the bright red Brabus accents.

Like the dial, the case continues with the black theme and also material innovation, which is at the heart of both brands. The 47mm case has been crafted from Carbotech, which is a special material created by binding sheets of carbon fiber with a high-end polymer. Carbotech is lightweight, non-corrosive, and hypoallergenic and has a unique pattern associated with it which makes every Carbotech watch stand out even from another Carbotech watch. There is a uni-directional bezel on top of the case and, the watch is water-resistant to 300 meters, courtesy of the signature Panerai crown.

Flipping the watch over reveals the skeletonized calibre 4001/s, which, like the rest of the watch is draped in black. The movement operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of 3 days using twin barrels. It is equipped with an off-centered oscillating weight, a power reserve indicator, and a KIF Parechoc anti-shock device.

The new Panerai Submersible Brabus Black Ops Edition watch would be accompanied by two straps: a bi-material version and a Panerai Sportech strap with a Velcro closure. The watch will retail for USD 46,200.
